The Mitred Parakeet is a 'royal' guest from the Andes mountains. It has successfully colonized the city of Barcelona, where a stable and noisy population now thrives alongside other parrots. Its bright red 'mask' and large size make it unmistakable. It is a survivor that has traded the high Andean peaks for the urban forests of the Mediterranean coast. Its presence is a sign of the resilience and success of the larger parakeets in our modern world. It is a symbol of the Andean spirit in Catalonia.

El anillo perioftálmico es blanco brillanteLarge and spectacular green parakeet from the Andes. Adult are distinguished by their bright red forehead and lores, and a diagnostic spray of red feathers across the cheeks and neck (the 'mitre'). It features a massive pale bill and a bold white eye-ring. It has a very long, pointed tail. It is a hardy bird from the high-altitude forests of South America.

Localized resident/breeder (introduced). Established population in Barcelona. Rare records in Madrid and islands.
