The Red-masked Parakeet is a 'masked' traveler from the Pacific. Once found in Barcelona, the only stable Spanish population is now in the city of Valencia, where it is considered a naturalized species. Its vibrant and extensive red face is a stunning sight in the city's gardens. It represents the surprising success of high-specialist parrots in our coastal cities. Its presence is a sign of the rich and exotic biodiversity of our modern urban centers. It is a symbol of the tropical Pacific in the Mediterranean.
