Very similar to our European Turtle Dove but larger and darker with a more complex plumage pattern. It features broader, darker centers to the feathers of the back and wing, and a different neck-patch. In its home range in Asia, it is a common bird, but in Europe it is a rare accidental visitor. Some individuals have been recorded staying in the same location for months during the winter.

Very rare accidental visitor from Asia. Only two homologated records for Spain: Tarragona (1994) and Valencia (2001). Usually occurs in autumn.
