The Wood Warbler is a jewel of the ancient forest. In Spain, it is primarily a migrant species, crossing our territory in spring and autumn. However, small, fluctuating populations breed in the best-preserved hayedos (beech forests) of the Pyrenees and Cantabrian mountains. Its unique 'shivering' song flight and brilliant colors make it a highlight for birders lucky enough to find it.

The largest and most colorful of its genus in Europe. It is a stunning bird with bright moss-green upper parts and a brilliant sulphur-yellow face, throat, and upper breast—contrasting sharply with a pure white belly. It has a very long wing projection and a long yellow eyebrow. While an extremely common breeder in northern European beech and oak forests, it is only a rare and localized breeder in Spain.

Mainly a migrant across the Peninsula and Balearics. Rare and irregular breeder in the high Cantabrian and Pyrenean forests. Much scarcer in the Canary Islands.
