The Willow Warbler is a miracle of migration. While it is one of the most numerous birds in northern Europe, it finds Iberia unsuitable for breeding. Instead, Spain acts as a critical highway. In August and September, every coastal park and garden in Spain is filled with these tiny travelers refueling for their flight across the Sahara. It is a bird of the passage, a true wanderer.

Very similar to the Common Chiffchaff but with subtly different proportions: longer wings, a longer eyebrow, and almost always pale (flesh-colored) legs. Its plumage is often a brighter, more 'willow-green' with more yellow on the breast. Its song is the best identifier: a beautiful, liquid, descending melody. It does not breed in Spain but it is one of our most abundant migrants, with billions crossing the country every year.

Migrant (passage) bird only. Extremely abundant and widespread across all of Spain during spring and autumn. Does not breed in the territory. Subspecies 'trochilus' and the northern 'acredula' are both present.
