The Common Greenshank is the giant of our Tringas. It is a powerful flyer and a very successful migrant. It is one of our most successful winterers, being found along all Spanish coasts and many inland reservoirs. It is a wary, loud bird that acts as the alarm for many wetlands. Its elegant white appearance and slightly curved bill make it a favorite for all birders. It is an essential component of the Spanish wintering avifauna.
A large, robust, and very elegant shorebird with long greenish legs and a long, sturdy bill that is slightly up-curved at the tip. Its plumage is a very clean mix of gray and white, with a diagnostic white rump extending in a long V-shape up the center of the back. It is famous for its very loud, ringing three-note 'tew-tew-tew' call. It is a specialist of coastal estuaries and lagoons, but also visits large inland wetlands.
Widespread and common winter visitor and passage migrant across all Spanish coasts and many inland reservoirs. Main concentrations in Doñana, Ebro, and Galicia. Present in both archipelagos. Subspecies 'nebularia'.
