The Garden Warbler is the 'quiet professional' of our forests. While others wear bright colors or bold masks, the Garden Warbler relies on its beautiful song and its perfect camouflage. It is a bird of the cool, lush forests of the north and the mountains. It is incredibly secretive and difficult to see, often only revealed by its musical voice. It is a symbol of the subtle and private beauty of our forest undergrowth.
A medium-sized, plain warbler with a very compact and robust body. It has a rounded head and a short, thick bill. Its most diagnostic feature is, paradoxically, its complete lack of distinctive features: it is uniformly grayish-brown above and pale buff below. It has a very sweet, liquid, and melodic song, often delivered from within dense cover.
Common summer visitor (April-October). Widespread in Northern Spain and mountain ranges. Absent from the South, Baleares, and Canarias as a breeder. Highly migratory.
