También posee una voz peculiar (kil-dii).A large, long-legged, and very distinctive plover. It is unique in having two bold black bands across its breast. It has a very long tail and a striking reddish-orange rump that is highly visible in flight and during its 'broken-wing' distraction display. Its name comes from its loud, piercing 'kill-dee' call. It is a highly active and vocal bird, often found in dry fields as well as wetlands.
Very rare accidental visitor from North America. Only two homologated records for Spain, both from the province of Pontevedra (1988, 1997). Late autumn/winter records.
