One of the most beautiful and graceful raptors in the world. It has a high-contrast black-and-white plumage and a deeply forked 'swallow-tail'. It has very long, pointed wings and spent most of its life in the air, even eating and drinking in flight. It breeds in the Americas and winters in South America.

Very rare accidental visitor from America. Only one record for Spain and Europe: Fuerteventura (March 1993). Potential for ship-assistance exists but unproven.
